A letter to nowhere

Between August 2020 and today, a letter has arrived in our mailbox every few weeks. Each letter contains a harrowing testimony of sexual abuse that occurred during psychological treatment, alongside criminal threats to the lives of the patients if they dare to reveal the truth. The patterns in these letters are identical, and each one is essentially a copy of a letter previously sent to the Ethics Committee of the Psychologists’ Association and the Ministry of Health—letters that were met with silence and no resolution.

According to Israeli law, if there is no complainant, there is no crime. Only an official complaint can lead to an investigation and action. But what happens when the complainant’s life is threatened? What can be done when there are dozens of terrified testimonies, and a person with immense power and influence stands against you? What happens when your abuser is someone close to whom you entrusted your most intimate secrets?
